NASA does not want to investigate with Russia a hole in the Soyuz

NASA refused to jointly investigate the reasons for the appearance of a hole in the casing of the Russian Soyuz MS-09 spacecraft. This was reported to the press by a source in the rocket and space industry.

The interlocutor stressed that the Russian side was ready to provide fully materials relating to the recent spacewalk. Photographs, videotapes, samples taken and other documentation are available.

Before the operation, American astronauts offered their technology in the form of a Canadarm hand-manipulator, which would help in this matter. But in the Russian capital they decided that domestic cosmonauts would cope without assistance.

Oleg Kononenko got to the Soyuz docked to the ISS and took samples of the sealant, which was filled with a drilled hole shortly after the discovery last summer. Samples were also taken from the surface around the damaged area of the aircraft skin.

Incident with the appearance of holes on the ISS

On the night of August 30, 2018, the equipment recorded air leaks in the Russian segment of the station. The plating of the Soyuz MS-09 manned spacecraft, which landed on the ISS at the beginning of summer, was damaged. Discussion of further action lasted until the next evening, and it resulted in the decision to seal the hole with sealant.

Roscosmos immediately began an investigation. In RSC Energia, where they were engaged in the production of the ship, they made a statement, excluding the possibility of a manufacturing defect. It is not excluded that someone deliberately spoiled the "Union", but it still needs to be proved. Even American astronauts came under suspicion.
