Chandrayan-2 probe descent platform found

The orbital module of the Chandrayan-2 mission was able to find the Vikram descent platform on the lunar surface, on board of which was the first Indian lunar rover Pragyan. A statement was made by the head of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Dr. Kailasavadivoo Sivan.

"Vikram" stopped communicating on the evening of September 6 during the descent to the moon. At the time of the loss of radio contact, the platform was at an altitude of 2.1 km. According to the head of ISRO, she was later identified on thermal images of the lunar surface obtained using the IIRS infrared spectrometer installed on board the Chandrayan-2. These images have not been published yet.

Now, knowing the exact location of the Vikram platform, mission experts will send ground station antennas to it and make a new attempt to get in touch with it. However, one should not place too high hopes on these attempts. Most likely, the landing probe was reduced too fast, and therefore it crashed or, at least, received very serious damage, which would make it impossible for him to carry out the planned program.

In the event of a successful landing of the platform, Indium would become the fourth country in the world to be able to make a soft landing on the lunar surface. As for the Chandrayan-2 apparatus, it is operating normally and has already begun collecting the first scientific data.
