Cosmonaut Vinogradov told where the smell of alcohol could appear on the ISS

Pavel Vinogradov, the famous Russian cosmonaut, Hero of the Russian Federation, shared his point of view about the appearance of the smell of alcohol on board the International Space Station. Crew members noticed this after the arrival of the American spacecraft Crew Dragon, which is being developed by the private company SpaceX.

The analysis showed that the atmosphere of the ISS contains a high content of isopropyl alcohol, which decreased slightly after the operation of the air purification system. Roscosmos is demanding clarification from NASA on this, but no answers have yet been given.

Vinogradov sees the two most likely versions. According to the first, Crew Dragon could be treated with alcohol before launching on Earth. The second version is that such a smell is given by the materials used in the construction of the aircraft.

To get answers to all the questions in connection with the incident, you need to bring air samples from the station to Earth, where they will already be taken up by professionals in the laboratory.

The new American spacecraft Dragon 2 was launched in unmanned mode on March 2, 2019, on March 3, it reached the ISS and successfully docked. On March 8, a new brainchild of Ilona Mask pushed off from the station and safely returned home. The flight of the ship with the crew on board was planned for November, but as a result of a recent accident during the engine fire tests, the dates can be postponed.
