“Maybe a hammer hit?” The astronauts for a long time could not turn on the robot Fedor

Russian cosmonaut Alexei Ovchinin said that he could hardly turn on the robot Fedor, who arrived on August 29 at the International Space Station. “I turned it on. Time ten-fifteen turned on and off. So he turned on and even said something, ”RIA Novosti quoted him referring to the broadcast of negotiations conducted by NASA.

It is reported that at some point the astronaut suggested hitting the power button with a hammer, but they advised the Flight Control Center to replace the batteries at Fedor. After another attempt, the robot turned on.

Video recording of the first minutes of Fedor's stay, also known as Skybot F-850, was published on board the ISS by Vesti TV channel.

According to Vesti, now the robot is with Ovchinin in the Search module. Alexander Skvortsov from the Zvezda module started experiments with him. Through the exoskeleton, the astronaut remotely controls the robot.

In the microblog Twitterdedicated to the project, a post appeared about the first works performed by Fedor. “We started training. When the astronaut performed technological operations, I helped him in choosing the necessary tool. Then, in copy mode, he successfully assembled the electrical connectors, simulating the repair of cables on the outside of the station, ”it was reported on behalf of the robot.

In the microblog, Fedor also spoke about his version of problems during power-up.

The Soyuz MS-14 spacecraft with the Fedor robot was launched into low Earth orbit on August 22. Five days later, the ship moored from the second attempt to the ISS. The robot was transferred to the station on August 29.
