Before being sent to Mars, all spacecraft still on Earth undergo a thorough chemical treatment, yet it is still not possible to achieve a hundred percent sterility. Thus, we can say that earthly life is recorded on the Red Planet. An interesting topic was raised by Boris Shustov, who holds the position of supervisor of the Institute of Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
“If journalists ask me if there is life on Mars, I reply:“ Already is. ” It is impossible to sterilize spacecraft absolutely, ”said an experienced specialist, speaking at a meeting of the presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Shustov explained that even after sterilization of the highest level, there are several hundred particularly resistant microorganisms per square meter of the treated surface. It follows that life is not only extremely difficult to create, but also no less difficult to destroy.
